Manufactured by King Pharmaceuticals, Cytomel T3 goes under the generic name liothyronine. It has been advertised as a steroid, a thyroid medication, and a weight loss supplement. It is basically a synthetic form of the T3 hormone, which is a natural hormone produced directly by the thyroid and converted into the T4 thyroid hormone. It can regulate the oxidative metabolism in some. It is used to increase the body’s need for energy, which in short means that if you have an overactive thyroid, this will worsen your condition. However, if you have an underactive thyroid, it may be an appropriate treatment plan. There has been a huge controversy over this particular treatment, specifically whether patients need just one hormone as Cytomel T3 would provide or both T4 and T3. As of right now, it is only available via prescription, and even doctors are speculating that it may be incomplete.
