The Most Effective Diet

Friday, August 28th, 2009

In all truth, if you are really serious about using the most effective possible diet, yes many are going to fail at some point in time. But at the same point, there is not really room for regular doses of carbs. By this I mean bad carbs. It’s how life works. Many like to think there is and that every once in a while they should eat rice or something. I’m not saying you should go on a low carb diet, by no means am I saying that. I don’t really have much to say about them in the good way.

However, cutting out bad carbs in favor of lean proteins and fruits and vegetables is the healthiest possible way to go. It’s actually the best way to lose weight, and if you can keep it up in the long term, well it’s certainly more maintainable than a traditional low carb diet. There are basic food groups of course, there are always basic food groups essential to life.

But candy is not one of them, pasta is not one of them, white rice is not one of them. Fritos are not one of them for that matter. It’s just a matter of realizing the truth of things and working with it rather than trying to find some way to get around it.

Food Addictions

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Anything can be addictive. If it gives you pleasure or a high or anything really, it can be addictive. So let’s call it like it is. You can be addicted to food like anything else, and anything in excess can be harmful to the body. Now some are more immediately deadly than others such as drug addictions. And ironically some see the dangers of one addiction such as illegal drugs and not of others like smoking. The difference between food addictions and other addictions is that you cannot actually go without food.

Food addictions are also easier to cover up. I’ve never personally had anything I would consider an addiction in my life. Things hold an appeal to me as long as I’m having a good time with them or enjoying them. But if I think they’re harmful or I’m just bored of them, they no longer hold any physical or other appeal to me. On the other hand just because I haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean I don’t have sympathy for those that do suffer through those problems. I certainly do. They can be a detriment to their lives in general and produce a number of different problems to be sure.

The problem with food addictions is that those people don’t eat to live, they live to eat, and they literally cannot stay away from it, etc. You have to eat to live. So I can understand how it could be harder. Now if you are addicted to foods like fruits and vegetables as long as you are not eating so much as to harm yourself, it’s fine. But I’ve never personally heard of anybody with that kind of luck. The biggest problem is that food addictions are hard to recognize even in ourselves. They could be cravings or more obvious, but it’s hard to see at times.

Healthy Fast Food

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

There are many who like the idea of controlling fast food restaurants to make them “healthier” or otherwise. There are even publications that tell you which fast foods you should eat instead of eating other fast foods to help you still lose weight while eating said fast foods. The biggest trend lately is those who want to require chain restaurants to provide calorie counts on the menu.

This may sound extreme to some of course, I realize that. But did it ever occur to people in general to stop eating fast food or eat it oh once a week instead of every day or every other day? That could very well contribute to a lower rate of obesity in and of itself. As we saw on a number of documentaries surrounding our “fast food nation”, even the salads at many of these places are ultimately unhealthy, some would even say that some of them are worse than the burgers and fries served at the same organizations. So logic would follow, stop eating fast food or at least drastically lower your general intake thereof.

But the logic behind many people who want to require this calorie counting is that they want users to be able to count their caloric intake and stay under a number of calories. Again, whether you count calories or not, if all of those calories are made up of fat, the likelihood is you are going to suffer severe vitamin deficiencies, and you are not going to lose weight. In essence, these are all the different ways that I like to encourage staying away from fast food in general and using common sense rather than making a big media production that would require more money in general to be spent.
