Fat Beverages

Americans love fat, sugar loaded beverages. If you ever watch shows like intervention when they feature obese individuals, they always say "well I don't eat that much." Generally it turns out they actually do eat quite a bit and just don't want to admit it to themselves. But there are some who really don't eat that much. They drink their way to obesity. The FDA came out stating that "the average American takes in 82 grams of added sugars every day." That is 317 calories of useless, fattening calories. Now we all know sodas like coke, sprite, pepsi, rootbeer, etc. are unhealthy. Some of us even know that their "diet" versions are unhealthy for a number of reasons. But there are other imposters that we would never guess contributed to this problem.

  1. Arizona Kiwi Strawberry-this contains 360 calories, 84 grams of which are pure sugar. You may think you are getting juice, but don't fool yourself. This is as far from the juice tree as you can get. Maybe 5% of the drink is actually made up of juice.
  2. Pina Colada-the average pina colada contains 625 calories, 75 grams of which are sugar. You may fool yourself that the coconut milk is healthy because it comes from a fruit, but it is riddled with fat.
  3. Jamba Juice Peanut Butter Moo'd Power Smoothie-this contains 1170 calories, 169 grams sugar, and 30 grams fat. They can call it whatever they want, but it is full of empty calories. This contains more sugar than an bag of chocolate chips.
  4. Baskin Robbin's Large Heath Bar Shake-this contains 2310 calories, 266 grams of which are sugar, and 108 grams of which are fat. Now personally, to those of you who didn't know this was unhealthy, I say really? One heath bar is pretty unhealthy, but the average number that go into this shake, 11.
  5. Vitamin Water-it sounds great. Vitamin water, two things we all need, right? Wrong. In reality this drink contains 130 calories, 33 grams of which are pure sugar. This is almost the amount contained in a can of Coke. So it probably won’t surprise anybody that the Coca Cola Company is the manufacturer.
