According to the World Journal of Gastroenterology back in 2009, Hydroxycut was one of the most popular brands of diet pills on the market, selling nearly 1 million units per year.

Created by MuscleTech Research and Development in the late 1990s, Hydroxycut products have since been reformulated to fit FDA standards for safety and will supposedly help consumers lose more weight than ever before through all-natural ingredients.

With such an enormous reputation for success, Hydroxycut seems like the ideal product line, does it not? However, we can’t help but think that there is more to Hydroxycut than meets the eye, so naturally, we decided to see if we could dig up any dirt about this product and if it can really help you lose weight.

Hydroxycut Products

Hydroxycut offers over 15 different products, each with a slightly different formula designed to promote weight loss. Although we won’t go into depth about each and every product in this review, you can read about 3 of Hydroxycut’s products here:

Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite
Hydroxycut Pro Clinical 100% Caffeine Free
Hydroxycut Fiber Full

What You Should Know About Hydroxycut

Hydroxycut was originally based on ephedrine, an effective yet dangerous ingredient that was banned by the FDA. By 2009, a recall and warning was issued by the FDA, and 14 of Hydroxycut’s most popular products were pulled from the shelves due to the potential risk of cause severe liver damage and even liver failure.

Although not all of these original Hydroxycut products made it back to the shelves, many of the most popular formulas were completely redesigned to use fruits and other all-natural ingredients.

Consumers should keep in mind, however, that Hydroxycut has gone through 2 major bans due to the warning letters issued by the FDA, which is why we have a difficult time whole-heartedly recommending Hydroxycut products.

What to Expect

Despite its sketchy history, Hydroxycut products are still known for their fat burning, appetite suppressing potential in the weight loss industry. Although many of the ingredients are weaker than the older formulas, they are typically safer and clinically proven.

The most common ingredient found in Hydroxycut products is caffeine (with a few caffeine-free exceptions), which can effectively boost energy levels and stimulate thermogenesis while simultaneously suppressing appetite. While this ingredient is fairly standard in the weight loss market, consumers with sensitivity to caffeine may wish to avoid Hydroxycut products in order to avoid the usual side effects of headaches, dizziness, nausea, and jitters.

Overall Impression of Hydroxycut

Hydroxycut has sold hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions of bottles over the years. They started out selling ephedrine, and just like everybody else, they had to reformulate. They have taken approaches now that are hopefully safe, albeit weaker in nature, and for the most part, have successfully helped consumers reach their weight loss goals.

While we applaud Hydroxycut for staying in the business so long, we can’t help but be a little skeptical of their past and their products. While Hydroxycut formulas may be safe now, new research may be released that could prove otherwise.

Tessa Says:

It’s not quite the top 10 product I thought it would be. I’ve used a lot of Hydroxycut products, and I got my best results back when they used ephedra. Since then, maybe they work. But my expectations are so high maybe because of what they originally gave me. With this, I haven’t really been able to get the things I wanted from Hydroxycut products since I tried the original Hydroxycut, and that had a lot of side effects.

Taryn Nelson Says:

Please recommend that others don’t use Hydroxycut. It’s not that it wasn’t effective once upon a time. Actually, it used to be great. The side effects were pretty mild for me and totally worth it. But Hydroxycut is just not what it used to be. I even gave their pro clinical formula a chance quite recently, and nothing, at least not for me.

Hydroyxcut is really popular. But it’s just not what I was looking for.

Charles Farley Says:

I lost about 5 pounds in one week with a Hydroxycut product. But I was also extremely cranky, I was jittery all the time, I had a lot of headaches, and I didn’t feel at my best. I didn’t really use my regular workouts that week, because I was too sick, and I couldn’t take it longer.

Neesha Nix Says:

Hydroxycut is okay. I’ve tried their Pro Clinical most recently, and I’ve switched around. But the products are okay. They come with some side effects, mostly caffeine. But they haven’t been particularly effective. They haven’t given me any of the over the top expectations that I had, and it hasn’t really helped me to lose more than maybe 5 pounds a bottle, which is not what I hoped for.
