Metabolife Review

Originally formulated with ephedra, Metabolife has been reformulated and also changed ownership since the FDA ban of ephedra. It now offers Metabolife Ultra, Metabolife Ultra Weight Management, Metabolife Ultra Caffeine Free, and Metabolife Green Tea Formula.

Ingredients and Mechanism of Action

The basic Metabolife claims to offer the amount of caffeine found in 1-2 cups of coffee, so approximately 100-200mg, to stimulate the metabolism and promote fat burn. But for those who are sensitive to caffeine or otherwise don’t want to deal with some of the potential negative side effects, they offer a caffeine free formula. All the formulas seem to contain a number of vitamins and minerals to keep the body in balance including thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, Vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, calcium, etc. Metabolife Ultra also contains chromium, garcinia extract, and guarana extract, which have been shown to promote weight loss through different methods.

Product Drawbacks

The problem I find with most product formerly ephedra based is that their ingredients are ordinary and sub-par at best. Metabolife is no exception. None of the ingredients stand out, and a number of them have never actually been proven to do anything toward the promotion of weight loss. Metabolife goes one step further. Not only did they use ephedra, but Metabolife founder Michael Ellis was indicted by the FDA for attempting to obstruct the regulation of ephedra. It’s one thing to not investigate an ingredient for safety purposes before using, but to actually know about the dangers and disregard them is something else. As a company, they were also investigated by the IRS for tax evasion, and they ultimately pled guilty. They faced more than $1 billion in personal injury claims as well as a major decline in sales, and they filed for bankruptcy in 2005. Metabolife has never actually recovered from the ephedra ban, nor have they found any ingredients to replace ephedra in their formula. Most of their formulas now use a large amount of caffeine and have been associated with a number of negative side effects.

Overall Impression of MetaboLife

Metabolife has never been known as an innovative or breakthrough company. They got lucky when the world discovered ephedra to be an effective weight loss ingredient. However, when it was discovered that individuals had died using that ingredient, they still tried to maintain its availability. They continue to use now sub-par ingredients associated with known negative side effects. I would not support any part of their business.
