Phentermine is the key ingredient in numerous prescription medications and is supposedly one of the most effective treatments for obesity on the market. This doctor-approved supplement may be able to speed weight loss in overweight people by decreasing appetite and is most effective when used in conjunction with a low-calorie diet and frequent exercise.

Phentermine is sold under a wide variety of different brand names, both over-the-counter and prescription, and manufacturers are adamant that Phentermine will even promote healthy thyroid activity on a short-term basis.

Yet is Phentermine really the miracle solution to weight loss that we’ve all been looking for? Let’s take a closer look to find out.

How Does Phentermine Work?

Phentermine, like many other prescription medications, works on the central nervous system, stimulating neuron bundles to release a particular group of neuotransmitters known as catecholamines such as dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine.

The catecholamines excite the sympathetic part of the nervous system-“the fight or flight” response. In turn, it inhibits the hunger signal which leads to appetite suppression. If your only problem is overeating, you may see benefits, but most people need more than just an appetite suppression to lose weight.

Safety

Phentermine is not safe to take if you:

  • Have high blood pressure
  • Are taking dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine, furazolidone, guanadrel or guanethidine
  • Have glaucoma
  • Have an overactive thyroid
  • Have a heart or blood vessel disease
  • Are taking blood-thinning medication
  • Have a severe narrowing of the blood vessels
  • Have thyroid diseases

Possible Side Effects

Because Phentermine interacts with the central nervous system, it often results in negative side effects similar to those experienced by stimulating ingredients such as caffeine. Phentermine side effects include an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, mild constipation or diarrhea, as well as jitters or restlessness.

Additionally, Phentermine has the potential to cause more severe negative side effects such as psychosis, confusion, vomiting, and blurred vision. Because Phentermine can be potentially dangerous if not used correctly, it is best to consult your doctor before adding this supplement to your current diet.

How to Take Phentermine

Phentermine is a once-daily pill, for your convenience, that should be taken on an empty stomach before breakfast. Consumers should avoid taking a dose later in the day, as it may interrupt sleeping patterns.

If you miss a dose, it’s recommended that you take Phentermine as soon as possible, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. It is better to skip the missed dose and take the schedule one to avoid overdosing. Doubling the dose does not amplify your weight loss results and can be dangerous to your health.

Risk of Addiction

Phentermine, although safe for use on a short term basis, can become addictive if used for extended periods of time. If you’ve been using Phentermine for long-term weight loss, be sure to consult your doctor before simply stopping the supplement, as this may result in withdrawal side effects.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Phentermine has a great deal of potential for giving dieters the weight loss results they’ve been looking for, and it has been clinically proven to work.

Although Phentermine is not a dramatic formula, it is definitely an effective one when used as prescribed.

Gloria Says:

I’ve used Phentermine for a year. I lost 52 lbs. It’s true it won’t change any of your eating habits-that’s up to you. It does suppress your appetite very well! I went off of it for 3 months (heart related) and gained 25 lbs. I since are on them again and lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. I’m happy to be back on them and hopefully will lose my 100 lb weight goal!!

Chase Says:

Phentermine IS a worthwhile investment for those who are looking for effective appetite suppression to add to their regimen of diet and exercise. I have gone hours before realizing, Hey…I’d better eat something! Weight loss is imminent. In the past, I’d say I lost a little over twenty-pounds using phentermine. But it does nothing to change your “habits” or the root cause of your weight gain. Once the pills (or your money) run out, you could quickly regain the weight without even noticing how rapidly it’s coming back!
